Mint oils can support immune, digestive, and respiratory health and are full of antioxidants that our bodies need.

MINT OIL OPTIONS

Peppermint (and Peppermint Vitality), Spearmint (and Spearmint Vitality), Wintergreen: the most commonly thought of mint oils/herbs
Hyssop, Dorado Azul, Mountain Savory: lesser known herbs in the mint family
Cool Azul, Deep Relief, PanAway, M-Grain, Aromaease, Raven: Young Living blends with mint oils as main constituents.

LESSER KNOWN MINT OILS

Dorado Azul: Dorado azul, known colloquially as bush mint, was regarded as a weed in Ecuador until 2006 when Young Living Founder D. Gary Young brought the botanical to the Finca Botanica Farm and Distillery for analysis. A member of the mint family, Dorado Azul has a fresh and herbaceous aroma, drawing comparisons to peppermint, but with more depth and character.

Dorado Azul essential oil contains the naturally occurring constituents beta-caryophyllene and eucalyptol, which make it a refreshing choice for inhalation or topical application. This is one oil we love to add to our wellness rollers, ‘flu' bath recipes, sinus steam pots, and respiratory massage oils!

Hyssop: Native to Europe and Asia, Hyssop is an evergreen shrub in the mint family. Its name comes from the Hebrew word ezob, or “holy herb”. Considered a sacred oil in ancient Egypt, Israel, and Greece, this aromatic plant has an extensive history of use. Hyssop essential oil has a slightly sweet, minty-floral aroma said to inspire feelings of creativity and meditation. Hyssop is a great addition to your personal routine that creates a feeling of peace and awareness of your surroundings!

Hyssop is a wonderful oil for processing built up or trapped emotions.  Have you ever felt like you needed a good cry but the tears wouldn't come? Sometimes we cannot access our feelings because we are used to keeping them down, or it's just not the right time! But our feelings need to be felt and moved through the body so they don't cause a state of dis-ease!

Dr. Carolyn Mein, a physician who studied the compounds of oils and how they affect us psycho-somaticaly (how our emotions stored in the body), recommends Hyssop for bottled-up emotions.  And guess where she says it is best to apply?  The epiglottis, or the base of the front of the throat!

That is exactly where I feel it when I'm holding it all in and trying not to cry.  Hyssop has been designed to help us release emotions and move forward. Focus on raising your awareness, apply Hyssop to the epiglottis and keep moving!

Hyssop is also wonderful for the immune system. It is cleansing and purifying, making it an important ingredient in many Young Living essential oil blends, including ImmuPower, GLF, and Relieve It.

Mountain Savory: Mountain savory is a shrub-like herb in the mint family that is native to the Mediterranean region. This aromatic herb has been used as a culinary flavoring for centuries and has a strong flavor that is reminiscent of oregano.

Mountain Savory Vitality essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering plant, and can be used to enhance the flavor of meat dishes, beans, stuffings, and more. In addition, it contains antioxidants and may provide immune support and cleansing properties when taken as a dietary supplement.

KEY CONSTITUENTS
*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties

Methyl-salicylate: a naturally-occurring compound that may have analgesic properties; synthetic methyl-salicylate is commonly used in many over the counter preparations for minor aches and pains.
Menthol: has been studied for is use to support healing and relief of minor aches and pains

MINT OILS & EMOTIONS
Did you know that ancient Chinese and Greek medicine practices point to the lungs as being the place where Sadness and Grief are stored? Everyday life is full of highs and lows, and whether chronic or acute, Grieving can create physical feelings in our chests. And there is a lot to grieve as we go through life!

When we are grieving we both physically and emotionally feel like we have very little "room to breathe". Conversely, when we feel excited, self-assured, and happy our chest feels light and puffed up.

Mint oils can support every-day lung functioning while also creating the feeling of having more breathing room! Wintergreen, Peppermint, Dorado Azul, & Hyssop open up our lunges to physically breathe more easily and therefore help us emotionally to feel like we have more space to breathe and let go of the grief!

Smell is so powerful to bring about good memories, and essential oils can help solidify new (more positive) ways of thinking by helping the limbic system to interact with the more cognitive/analytical parts of the brain and super-charge your brain's own ability to get out of the negative cycle. By smelling essential oils and focusing on the way you want to feel and think, you are creating a new pathway in your brain.
