YOUNG LIVING COMPANY HISTORY & LORE

The Story Behind the Blend

Did Gary Young really put Abundance™ in the paint?

During Young Living’s early years in the 1990s, Gary and Mary Young were working to establish the young company.

According to the story shared within Young Living, Gary and Mary renovated a run-down headquarters building in Riverton, Utah.

Gary famously mixed Abundance™ directly into the interior paint used on the building’s walls.

At the time, the company was experiencing slow sales and significant challenges. Young Living’s account says business picked up in the weeks following the renovation.

Gary and Mary also incorporated Abundance™ into their working environment in other unusual ways. During slow seasons, they reportedly applied it to themselves and used it around their office, including sprinkling it on computer keyboards.

ABUNDANCE IN THE PAINT?

YES.

According to Young Living’s company story, Gary Young mixed Abundance™ into the paint while renovating the early Riverton headquarters.

Was the oil responsible for what happened next?

The story is fascinating, but correlation does not establish cause and effect. The story does not provide scientific evidence that adding an essential oil to paint or using it in a workplace produces financial prosperity.

What makes the story especially interesting is how Gary and Mary reportedly paired the aroma with intention AND action.

They continued working.
They contacted people.
They built relationships.
They pursued opportunities.
They continued growing the company.

The aroma became associated with possibility while action accompanied the intention.

AROMA + INTENTION + ACTION

An aroma may remind us of an intention.
We still take the next step.

What possibility might you overlook when your attention stays fixed on what you don’t have?

EIGHT OILS. EIGHT BOTANICAL STORIES. ONE BLEND.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN EIGHT VERY DIFFERENT AROMAS MEET?

Why These Oils Together?

BRIGHT

Orange

WARM

Ginger • Clove • Cinnamon Bark

EARTH & FOREST

Patchouli • Black Spruce

RESIN

Frankincense • Myrrh

The citrus lifts.
The spices warm.
The earth and forest notes anchor.
The resins deepen.

NO SINGLE OIL CREATES ABUNDANCE.

THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG THEM CREATES THE BLEND.

WHAT DOES ABUNDANCE™ SMELL LIKE?

Aroma & Experience

Young Living describes Abundance™ as having a warm, spicy aroma.

FIRST — Notice the bright citrus and warming spice.

THEN — Notice the earth, forest, and resins underneath.

FINALLY — Notice what remains as the brighter notes soften.

What do you notice in yourself?

Rather than immediately asking what you need, pause and ask:

What do I already possess that I haven’t fully noticed?

Skills? Relationships? Knowledge? Experience? Opportunity? Creativity? Faith? A next step?

A GENTLE SHIFT IN ATTENTION

From Scarcity to Possibility

Scarcity does not appear only around money. Sometimes it sounds like:

“I don’t have enough time.”
“I don’t have enough energy.”
“I don’t know enough.”
“I’m too far behind.”
“Taking care of myself costs too much.”
“I’ll never feel whole.”

These thoughts may direct our attention toward what is missing rather than what is already available.

An aroma may serve as an intentional sensory cue — a reminder to pause, notice an old thought, and redirect attention toward another possibility.

What if the next step requires noticing rather than acquiring?
