BACKGROUND
Basil has been used for centuries for medicinal and spiritual purposes. Alexander the Great is believed to have brought basil to ancient Greece, and the powdered leaves were used to treat migraines and respiratory needs in the 16th century. It was listed in Hildegard's Medicine, a highly regarded text of herbal medicines in the 1100s.

Basil is also considered a symbol of love, eternal life, purification, and protection in Hindu culture. In some folklore, basil is used as a good luck charm for protection and to attract wealth.

Basil essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves, stems, and flowers of the plant.
