SPOTLIGHT ON CELERY SEED
The oil comes from the seed.
Many people recognize celery by its crisp green stalks and leaves. Celery Seed essential oil invites us to look at a much smaller part of the plant: the tiny aromatic seeds. Education first. Curiosity always.
Meet CeleryLook at the Seed
The Plant Behind the Oil
Wild celery is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean region. Today the plant is cultivated for both its familiar stalks and its flavorful seeds.
Stalk, leaf, seed and essential oil all belong to the same plant, yet each offers a different expression of it. Celery Seed Vitalityâ„¢ is steam distilled from the plant's tiny seeds. Same celery. A much smaller starting point.
The Plant at a Glance
LOOK AT THE SEED
The familiar plant.
A much smaller source of aroma.

Most of us recognize celery by its stalks and leaves.
Look closer.
The essential oil highlighted here comes from the tiny seeds of Apium graveolens.
FROM SEED TO BOTTLE
Celery Seed Vitalityâ„¢ is steam distilled from the tiny seeds of Apium graveolens. Steam carries the seed's volatile aromatic compounds away from the plant material; once cooled, those compounds separate as essential oil.
PLANT → SEED → STEAM DISTILLATION → ESSENTIAL OIL
A spoonful of culinary celery seed and a drop of essential oil come from the same seed, but they are not the same thing. One is whole spice. The other is concentrated.

A LOOK AT PLANT CHEMISTRY
An essential oil contains a collection of naturally occurring aromatic compounds. Looking at those constituents gives us another way to explore the botanical character of the plant, but the whole oil is more than the name of any single constituent.
Limonene: The Majority
Published analyses of celery seed oil commonly report limonene as the most abundant constituent, the same bright compound familiar from citrus peels.
Phthalides: The Signature
So why doesn't it smell like an orange? Phthalides such as sedanenolide and 3-n-butylphthalide appear in far smaller amounts, yet researchers associate them strongly with celery's characteristic aroma.
Educational, Not Medical
Small amounts can shape big character. Composition varies with growing conditions and distillation, and constituent research does not become a health claim about the oil.
AROMATIC PERSONALITY
EARTHY • HERBACEOUS • WARM • CELERY-LIKE
Open the bottle and pause before deciding what you think.
What do you notice first? Earthiness? Fresh herbal notes? Warmth? Something immediately reminiscent of celery seed?
OBSERVE BEFORE INTERPRETING.

A Spice Long Before a Bottle
Long before anyone distilled it, cooks reached for celery seed itself. The dried seed earned a lasting place in pickling spice, brines, soups, dressings and celery salt, a little seed carrying a lot of flavor.
That history tells us something about the plant's character. It does not, on its own, write directions for a concentrated essential oil. The product label does that.
Three Simple Pathways

Explore Celery Seed's earthy, herbaceous aroma through diffusion. Diffuse up to 1 hour 3 times daily, and notice how the aroma shifts as the room fills.
Celery Seed may also be explored topically according to current Young Living label directions: dilute with V-6â„¢ Vegetable Oil Complex or olive oil and apply to the desired area as needed.
A powerful earthy flavor reminiscent of the dried herb. Young Living suggests vegetable- or poultry-based soup, rice, tomato juice, pickling recipes and brines. Always check the label on the bottle in your hand.
